Blue Whale Migration
May – November
During the summer and fall, the southern and central California coast is home to more blue whales than anywhere else in the world. These fascinating marine mammals are the largest animals on earth. The heart of a blue whale has long been rumored to be the size of a small car.  Hundreds of these magnificent blue whales are spotted near the coast of Dana Point during the summer.

Gray Whale Migration
November – April
Roughly 20,000 gray whales migrate between Alaska and Mexico each year. Traveling from feeding grounds to mating and breeding lagoons, this epic journey (12,000-miles, round-trip) is known as one of the longest migrations of any mammal. The waters off Dana Point is a landmark on their journey, and whale breaching can be seen close to the shoreline.
